Local Search Hound’s Continuing Maps Testing

Local Search Hound tests his theories on what some of the possible factors for ranking in Google’s Local Business Center / Map results could be.

While I believe it is likely that Allpages.com has an effective pool of listings, wouldn’t it be more likely that the listings carry more value because of their age (similar to sites/pages in typical organic results), rather than that there exists a “preferred” status. They likely were beta-partners, but if the listings that they have provided have been enduring, and of high quality, why wouldn’t their ranking be higher?

This testing is very interesting, and the tips in the comments make for a hot discussion to keep an eye on.
