“Google Trends Comes To Web Sites: Trends For Web Sites”

Rustybrick woke me up out of my Friday Zone with some interesting breaking news today: Google Trends is now open out of the Labs for web sites.

This is very cool info for those of us looking for some numbers out of our markets.

Some features include:

  • Geographics, visit trends, and search terms of searchers
  • A “Search Volume Index” with line chart
  • “Also Visited” sites, highlighting direct competition
  • The ability to search more than one site at a time, in other words, comparing competitor data

The site is accessible without the personalization, but logging in with your Google Account also allows you to export the trend data as a .csv.

The data is culled from the pool of information Google has been collecting through an opt in in it’s Analytics program, consumer panel data, and market research, so it should more closely resemble true trends than similar online products like Alexa, which collect data from a limited pool of toolbar users.

“comScore: Google Gets High Again In US Search Share”

comScore is out with their April ‘08 numbers, which are admittedly more of the same that we’ve already seen.

One minor difference is that comScore has Yahoo!holding more of it’s own than the Hitwise numbers. Google’s growth seems to come from over all industry growth, and less than the cannibalism from an impending recession than other monthly interpretations.

“Internet Advertising Revenues Top $21 Billion In ’07, Reaching Record High”

IAB and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) have release their 2007 Internet Advertising Report.

Major metrics include:

  • “For the full year 2007, revenues totaled $21.2 billion, exceeding 2006 performance by 26 %, itself the former record year.
  • Q4 2007 Internet advertising revenues hit $5.9 billion, representing historic revenues for a single quarter and a 24% increase over the same period in 2006.
  • This is the fourth consecutive year and 13th consecutive quarter of record results.”

The data seems to follow wider technology trends, and slight steps away from old-form advertising tatctics, opting instead for Seach and Performance deals.

No huge surprise, Classifieds took another turn for the worse.

April 2008 Hitwise Numbers, and Google’s Still Growing

Once again, Hitwise has released new numbers for this month, April 2008, and once again Google has posted growing numbers.

Up to 67.90%, most of their gains did not come from a strengthening market as hes been the case in the past. This time rather, it would appear that Google is in fact stealing shares straight out of the mouths of rivals Yahoo! and MSN.

Has anyone started the 70% countdown meter yet?
